E. Schuyler DeJong , M.D.
Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine

I came here to Brevard County in 2003 after completing 14 years of active duty service in the US Army. I joined the military after completing my undergraduate degree from Colorado State University, where I graduated Cum Laude. Medical school brought me into the military at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, the military’s medical school. My Orthopaedic Surgery Residency was at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. After a tour of duty at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, I went back to fellowship training in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. My last tour of duty was as the Chief of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Sports Medicine has always been a particular interest of mine. Having the opportunity to train in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and work with the cadets at West Point was a wonderful opportunity. Here in Brevard County, I have found an exceptional patient population whose interest in staying active makes returning them to function after injury particularly rewarding.

I have had the opportunity to work with many teams in the community, to include the Washington Nationals during Spring Training, Florida Tech, Brevard Community College, and several of the local high schools, including Melbourne High, Satellite High, and Melbourne Central Catholic. A large portion of my patient population, however, is the recreational athlete or active individual whose desire to remain active is no less than a professional’s. Whether non-operative or surgical management is recommended, I take great pride in returning my patients to their pre-injury level of function.

My practice focuses mostly on extremity injuries, such as cartilage or ligament tears of the knee or rotator cuff tears, impingement or instability of the shoulder. Elbow and ankle injuries and basic fractures are also commonly treated. I am board certified in both Orthopaedic Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine through The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
