MIMA Sports Medicine offers the most current treatment options for athletes at every level of participation, from professional to recreational. Whether you are a competitive athlete or just want to stay active and pain free, our physicians can get you evaluated and treated.
MIMA Sports Medicine will keep you at the top of your game, whether you are in need of primary sports medicine, general orthopaedic or one of the following services:
Viscosupplement Injections
Viscosupplement injections use a purified Hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance found in the synovial fluid that surrounds a healthy knee. The synovial fluid helps cushion, lubricate, and protect the knee. In people with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, the synovial fluid becomes thinner and less able to do its job. The MIMA Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine physicians can inject HA similar to the HA found in healthy knees. This injection helps to replenish the natural HA found in the knee and helps restore the ability of the synovial fluid to cushion, lubricate and protect the knee.
XIAFLEX
XIAFLEX, is the new non-surgical, FDA approved treatment option for patients suffering from Dupuytren’s contracture. Dupuytren’s contracture develops slowly and affects the connective tissue under the skin of your palm. The tissue under the skin becomes thick and eventually forms a thick cord that can pull one or more of your fingers into a bent position. Once the fingers are affected, everyday activities such as gripping a steering wheel or placing your hands in your pockets become complicated. XIAFLEX has been shown to release the contracted cords of Dupuytren's within a day after injection.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections
PRP, or “platelet-rich plasma,” is an innovative treatment option for chronic musculoskeletal and sports injuries. Dr. Bruce Thomas has trained with some of the pioneers of PRP therapy and performs the procedure at MIMA Sports Medicine for patients with appropriate indications.
PRP works best for chronic tendon, ligament, joint and other soft tissue conditions that have failed other conservative treatment measures.
MAKOplasty
Dr. Edward St. Mary is one of three Brevard orthopaedic surgeons certified in MAKOplasty partial knee resurfacing. This new treatment option is for adults living with early to midstage osteoarthritis (OA) in the medial, patellofemoral, or lateral compartments of the knee. This minimally invasive partial knee replacement procedure is powered by robotic arm technology. And offers numerous potential benefits over total knee replacement including a faster recovery, shorter hospital stay, reduced pain, and a more natural feeling knee.
