MIMA ORTHOPAEDICS & SPORTS MEDICINE TO CONDUCT SPORTS PHYSICALS FOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES JUNE 6th

[MELBOURNE, FL] – MIMA Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine will once again provide sports physicals for area high school athletes free of charge on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at MIMA Sports Medicine, 205 E. NASA Blvd., Melbourne from 8 am – noon. The schedule for the physical is coordinated by school and is as follows:

·                     8am - Satellite High School

·                     9am - Eau Gallie High School

·                     10am – Melbourne High School

·                     11am – Melbourne Central Catholic and West Shore High Schools

MIMA is providing physicals early in the summer so that students who participate in summer pre-season athletic programs, such as football and cross country, can have their pre-participation physical examination done on time.  These physical exams are required by The Florida High School Athletic Association before a student can participate in school-sponsored athletic programs.

“MIMA has offered free sports physicals to area school athletes for over 20 years,” says Dr. Schuyler DeJong, orthopaedic surgeon with MIMA. “We’ve gotten a great deal of support from the physicians within the group, who volunteer their time to help our local area high school students.  A number of our staff also volunteer, helping to take vital signs, perform vision screening, measuring their height and weight, and guiding the students through the process.  Beachside Physical Therapy has been a big supporter as well, providing volunteers to help with musculoskeletal screenings, among other things.”

Providing the sports physicals is one way in which MIMA gives back to the community. “MIMA physicians are volunteering all through the year, supporting many of the sports programs with medical coverage at their games,” says Dr. DeJong.
